SPOKANE, Wash. – Pacific mashed 14 homers, recorded 48 hits, and scored 41 total runs on the weekend to earn the three-game sweep over Whitworth.

The Boxers (12-7, 7-5 NWC) enjoyed another outstanding game at the plate in the series finale, banging out 21 hits with four home runs and 12 extra-base hits. Seven of the nine starters recorded multi-hit games in the offensive explosion.

Damon Tanner (Sophomore/El Dorado Hills, CA) had a career day at the plate, launching three home runs in the contest. The power-hitting outfielder was 4-for-6 with eight RBI and one run scored to lead the impressive Boxer offense.

Tyler Quinn (Junior/Mililani, HI), Isaac Lovings (Senior/Beaverton, OR), and Brad Altomare (Senior/San Ramon, CA) each recorded three hits on the day. Quinn went yard for the second time this season while Lovings and Altomare eached legged out an extra-base hit.

Patrick Muskat (Redshirt Freshman/Beaverton, OR), Ryan Krout (Senior/Washougal, WA), and Max Nealon (Senior/Redmond, WA) racked up two hits apiece. Krout blasted his sixth home run of the year, as he now leads the team.

How It Happened

Krout gave the Boxers an early lead with a two-run shot in the top of the first inning, scoring Tyler Quinn (Junior/Mililani, HI) who led off with a double. Pacific would continue to add on when Lovings and Patrick Muskat (Redshirt Freshman/Beaverton, OR) drew back-to-back walks before Tanner hit a three-run bomb to centerfield, making it 5-0.

Three more runs in the second frame would make it an 8-0 advantage for Pacific. Nealon smacked a double in the left-center gap to lead things off. Quinn followed with an infield hit and Nealon would eventually come around to score on a balk. Muskat lined one to centerfield to score Quinn and Tanner doubled down the left-field line to give the Boxers an eight-run advantage.

After one scoreless inning, starting pitcher Derek Eubanks (Senior/Oregon City, OR) surrendered two runs in the bottom of the second. The left-hander blanked the Pirates in the top of the third, but that would be the end of his day. Davis Koester (Sophomore/Trout Lake, WA) was the next pitcher to toe the rubber, making his second appearance of the series.

CJ Colyer (Senior/Gilroy, CA) took over for Koester after his 1.1 innings of work. Colyer was fantastic out of the bullpen, holding the Pirates scoreless in his 3.2 innings pitched while fanning three hitters and allowing just one hit. He would go on to earn the win after his excellent outing.

In the top of the fourth, Pacific tacked on another run when Muskat ripped a doubled in the gap to score Lovings from first base.

Whitworth scratched a run in the bottom of the third and used a three-run homer in the fourth to claw within three. The Boxers would answer, however, with a three-run home run of their own in the top half of the fifth when Quinn smashed a ball over the wall in right-center field to make the score 12-6.

Tanner hit his second big fly of the day in the top of the sixth, a solo shot to extend the lead. Four consecutive hits from Andrew Thomas (Senior/Escondido, CA), Altomare, Nealon, and Nolan McNeill (Senior/San Tan Valley, AZ) would cap off a three-run inning for the Boxers.

In the top of the ninth, Tanner took a bow with his third home run of the game. The sophomore's second three-run bomb was driven over the centerfield wall and it gave his team a 12-run lead going into the final half inning.

Head Coach Brian Billings sent Liam Cammall (Senior/San Diego, CA) to the mound in the eighth inning to close out the contest. He pitched the final two frames to clinch the victory and the series sweep for Pacific.
