Iberia has launched, together with Getting Greener, a new self-consumption solar plant with 2MW of power at its La Muñoza facilities, as part of a new commitment towards the goal of achieving carbon neutrality.
The solar field is set up on the roof of the engine shop and occupies 10,000 square meters, and can generate 80 million kW hours, which is equivalent to the consumption of 800 homes. It comprises 5,659 340Wp solar panel modules, 14 inverters, 6 kilometers of aluminum tubes, 11 kilometers of aluminum and steel structure, 2,000 anchor points, and more than 25 kilometers of cable, all of which makes this facility the largest self-consumption plant among the companies or groups that make up the Ibex 35.
In this video you can see the details of the works:
This plant is the first of an energy efficiency project that Iberia is carrying out with Getting Greener, which will involve an investment of 12 million euros that will be financed with the savings obtained in its facilities, which, the company stressed, will allow it to protect its liquidity.
The project involves installing a capacity of 10MW of power over the next three years, which will occupy 50,000 square meters and production of more than 13 million kW, equivalent to the consumption of more than 4,000 homes.
A second phase is already up and running, and consists of the extension of this self-consumption solar plant to the roof of hangar 6 and general workshops, which will add another 15,000 square meters and 3MW of power.
This is complemented by the replacement of equipment with higher energy and water consumption at the La Muñoza facilities with more efficient ones.
