Kane County’s new Multi-Use Facility has been awarded the 2021 Project of the Year from the Construction Industry Service Corporation or CISCO.
The new 58,0000-square-foot building, located on the Kane County Judicial Center campus, houses the Kane County Coroner’s Office and morgue facilities; Kane County Sheriff’s Office fleet maintenance space; Office of Emergency Management fleet, storage, training and support facilities; and the Kane County Building Management Offices, fueling station and a countywide records storage space.
Kane County Coroner Robert Russell previously said the old building that housed his office was simply inadequate.
“Fortunately, 31 years and many tragedies later, we are being blessed with a state-of-the-art facility,” he said. “Now the employees of the Coroner’s Office can confidently work, and the public can be served appropriately.”
The Multi-Use Facility building is a modern, 21st century design improving overall efficiency and response time by housing all of the county’s emergency equipment in one location.
The honor from the CISCO is in the category for New Construction in the City and Suburbs Under $20 Million. The award is construction driven and took into consideration the following:
- Quality of Construction
- Design
- Impact on Community
- Safety Record
- Subcontractor Local Union Affiliations
“Amidst an unprecedented pandemic, general contractors, subcontractors and the men and women who construct these buildings collaborated to stay safe, stay on time and within budget to complete these outstanding projects,” said CISCO Executive Director Dan Allen.
The building was designed by Cordogan Clark and the General Contractor is R.C. Wegman Construction and was built at a cost of $14 million. It opened in April of 2021.
