Developers who are planning to use recycled shipping containers to build a 64-unit apartment complex on E. 72nd Street in Cleveland have won schematic approval for eight container homes to fill in vacant lots on the next block.
The container homes proposed for E. 73rd Street come in four styles: duplex, triplex, triplex with alternate facade and duplex compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Adam Rosekelly, founding principal at Architecture Office in Cleveland, told Cleveland planning commissioners at a meeting on Friday.
The standalone homes are based on the concept of Arkitainer on E. 72nd Street, believed to be the first mixed-income container apartment complex in Ohio, which is being developed by WRJ Developers Inc. in Cleveland and designed by Three Squared Inc. in Detroit, Michigan.
