The illegal sale and consumption of liquor at public places such as dhabas, restaurants, forests, parks and tea stalls at Palampur in Kangra district has become a matter of concern during the Covid-19 crisis.

In the absence of a check by the state agencies, the liquor is being openly served in the dhabas and the restaurants in Baijnath, Jaisinghpur, Maranda, Alampur, Thakurdwara, Bundla and Gopalpur areas in Palampur after the lockdown restrictions were relaxed.

Besides, at other public places such as parks, and riverbanks, groups of youths can be seen consuming liquor, causing embarrassment to tourists.

The forests near Latwala, Bindravan, Gopalpur, Sorabh Van Vihar, Neugal CafĂ© near Leprosy Home and roads leading to Kandi, Skaeri, Jhakhni Mata and Bundla are the worst affected as youths can be seen consuming liquor in the open there during the day.

Local social bodies have lodged complaints with the authorities concerned but no steps have been initiated to check the illegal sale and consumption of liquor.
