Did Steve Kerr really use 'Austin Powers' as his hotel alias while playing for Bulls with Michael Jordan? - CBS Sports

"Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" was one of the more popular movies of the late 1990s. So much so that Steve Kerr apparently decided to use "Austin Powers" as his alias when he was on the road with the Chicago Bulls during the 1997-98 season.

NBC Sports Chicago's Rob Schaefer did some investigating and took a closer look at the team's list of road trip room assignments from that season after Bulls bench player Rusty LaRue shared it on Twitter. The list was closely listed in order according to the Bulls' roster.

"Austin Powers" certainly wasn't the only alias that appeared on the list of room assignments. "Fred Sanford" and "Peter Parker" were on the list, which was one of several items from the historic season that LaRue has shared on Twitter in recent weeks.

"Austin Powers" was between "Oscar Miles" and Bulls reserve Joe Kleine, who didn't have an alias. Miles referred to an Illinois Hall of Fame golfer and that could point to Michael Jordan with the Bulls legend being an avid golfer.

Kerr using "Austin Powers" makes some sense considering that the movie franchise had just begun its rise in pop culture. "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" was released on May 2, 1997, and Kerr would've likely seen the film by the time the 1997-98 season got underway.

While Schaefer's investigative theory could hold some water, Kerr has yet to confirm or deny the use of the alias.
