ANKARA
Turkey's daily electricity consumption increased by 2.5% to hit a record high with 931,368 megawatt-hours on Tuesday, according to official figures of Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation (TEIAS) on Wednesday.
Hourly power consumption peaked at 17.00 local time with 43,638 megawatt-hours, posting another record for hourly electricity use, TEIAS data showed.
The country's electricity usage dropped to its lowest level of 31,335 megawatt-hours at 07.00 local time.
Electricity production totaled 926,664 megawatt-hours on Tuesday, marking a 2.5% increase compared to the previous day.
The majority of the output came from natural gas plants at 242,634 megawatt-hours.
Hydroelectricity power plants and imported coal plants followed with 221,028 megawatt-hours and 197,094 megawatt-hours, respectively.
While electricity production from natural gas plants constituted 26.2% of total electricity consumption in Turkey on Monday, hydroelectricity power plants had a share of 23.8% and imported coal had a share of 21.2%.
On Tuesday, Turkey's electricity exports amounted to 2,635 megawatt-hours, while imports reached 7,339 megawatt-hours.
