Meghan Markle, Prince Harry officially axing the 'Sussex Royal' brand - Page Six

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are officially axing the “Sussex Royal” brand as they prepare to bid farewell to the royal family.

The couple will accede to the demands of Queen Elizabeth II and no longer use the name Sussex Royal for their charitable organization, Instagram or website.

In a final message on their Sussex Royal Instagram account, the Sussexes — who leave their lives as “working” royals on Tuesday — issued a message to their 11.3 million followers from their new home in Los Angeles.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, they wrote: “As we can all feel, the world at this moment seems extraordinarily fragile. Yet we are confident that every human being has the potential and opportunity to make a difference — as seen now across the globe, in our families, our communities and those on the front line — together we can lift each other up to realise the fullness of that promise.”

“What’s most important right now is the health and wellbeing of everyone across the globe and finding solutions for the many issues that have presented themselves as a result of this pandemic.”

“As we all find the part we are to play in this global shift and changing of habits, we are focusing this new chapter to understand how we can best contribute.”

“While you may not see us here, the work continues.”

“Thank you to this community — for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!

“Until then,” the post signs off, “please take good care of yourselves, and of one another.”

A spokesperson for the Sussexes provided an additional statement, noting:

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would prefer that in the immediate weeks and months, the focus remains on the global response to COVID-19. However, we recognise there are outstanding questions relating to their future beyond their Household transition deadline, so are sharing the below for your reference.

“As was agreed with The Royal Family, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer use the name Sussex Royal for their charitable organisation, Instagram or website. For now, there will be no additional information on their next steps.

“Therefore, the update to follow shortly on the @SussexRoyal Instagram account will mark their 31st March transition from ‘working’ Members of the Royal Family.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future non-profit organisation.”

Meghan and Harry, who will remain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — but won’t use their “Royal Highness” titles — are in LA with baby son Archie, after leaving the $14 million Canadian home where they’ve been staying.

While President Trump’s Twitter declaration made clear the US will not pay for their security, the couple has made their own security arrangements and will personally cover costs associated with it.

Their “Sussex Royal” Instagram account will remain online, though they will no longer make posts from it. The Sussex Royal Foundation, which was in the process of being established in the UK, is being wound down.

Page Six has been told their current primary initiative is Travalyst, Harry’s sustainable tourism initiative. There’s a 12-month review in place of all the new arrangements, as the royal family and the Sussexes agreed.

As The Post reported, they have poached Catherine St-Laurent from Bill and Melinda Gates. She has been hired as chief of staff to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and will also serve as executive director of their new nonprofit organization.

Speaking of their new hire, Harry and Meghan said: “We are proud to be joined by Catherine St-Laurent in this next chapter with us. Her leadership and proven track record working within two organizations that have tremendous impact in the world — the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Pivotal Ventures — make her an incredible asset and we are excited to have her on our team.”

St-Laurent added: “From our very first conversation, Harry and Meghan have expressed a deep commitment to improving lives and having a positive impact on society. Their perspective on the role that empathy, connection, and compassion can play in that mission is both deeply personal and incredibly timely. I am delighted and honored to be able to play a role in realizing their vision as they embark on this journey of learning, listening, and inspiring all of us to act.”

Meanwhile, their respected former public relations chief, Sara Latham, has been snapped up by the Queen. US-born Latham will work in the monarch’s private office to advise it on special projects. She worked with Bill Clinton’s chief of staff and was later brought on by his wife, Hillary, to help on her unsuccessful 2016 White House campaign.

Latham also worked for Barack Obama before moving to the UK, where she served as a special adviser to the late culture secretary Tessa Jowell, where her work included Britain’s successful London 2012 Olympic bid.
