Liam is causing Payne, according to Twitter.
The former One Direction band member, 26, is catching heat for his steamy song about a bisexual woman. Angry fans are accusing Payne of using bi stereotypes in his new song, “Both Ways,” which is part of his first solo album, “LP1.”
Lyrics like, “My girl, she like it both ways/She like the way it all taste,” have also caused speculation about the dad-of-one’s Instagram model girlfriend, 19-year-old Maya Henry’s sexuality.
“Fetishizing bisexual women for your fantasies & profiting off of it isn’t cute,” one Twitter user writes.
Other lyrics seemingly about group sex — like, “Never too many hands all on your body” — caused one Twitter user to bemoan: “I’m sick and tired of people thinking my sexuality is made for threesomes.”
Tyler Oakley, a 30-year-old YouTuber and gay activist, also dragged the singer for the new song. “B- -ch, I warned y’all years ago! lmao #liampayneisoverparty,” he tweeted.
Oakley had beef with Payne after the singer tweeted at Willie Robertson of the conservative “Duck Dynasty” reality-TV family in 2014 that he “appreciated his family values.” In response, Oakley vented to his followers that he was “very confused and disappointed” by Payne’s praise for someone critics claimed was “homophobic.”
This isn’t the first time Payne has caused controversy in the LGBTQ+ community, either. The singer has been blasted in the past for remarking that he wouldn’t let former bandmate Harry Styles baby-sit his now-2-year-old son, Bear. “I feel like my child would come out dressed in something that I just wouldn’t understand,” Payne said on the UK’s Capital FM Big Top 40 show in 2017.
Meanwhile, Styles’ song, “Medicine,” has been hailed as a bisexual anthem, as Billboard reported, for its lyrics, “The boys and the girls are here, I mess around with him, and I’m OK with it.”
