After discussing the use of YouTube with several IT professionals, Pulaski County Community Development Commission Executive Director Nathan Origer suggested to the commissioners that the county use the social platform for certain purposes.
He said he spoke with the team that hosts the county’s website, Willie DeGroot, Brad Conn, and Steve Ricketts from Roeing IT Solutions.
“All of them are comfortable with our using YouTube either as a back-up, replacement or redundancy to Facebook livesteaming,” explained Origer. “Steve actually said that YouTube’s security features are on par and probably even better than Facebook’s. So, everybody who could possibly have something to offer who does work for the county thinks that we are in the clear for this.”
With the commissioner’s approval, Origer would set up the YouTube channel. Additionally, Origer said he and Commissioner Maurice Loehmer recently met with an audio/visual consultant at the Pulaski County Highway Garage to improve the quality of livestreaming at that location.
“He did give me some pointers about some free software that I could use that would allow us to stream on multiple platforms at the same time so instead of an either/or we could do both,” said Origer.
Origer said he will work with YouTube first and then look at that option.
The commissioners agreed to move forward with the recommendation to use YouTube. Origer will try to work with YouTube during tonight’s Pulaski County Council meeting.
