The two countries who had higher rates of mobile Internet consumption were Austria and Finland.
Last year, a mobile Internet user in Latvia consumed 16.85 gigabytes (GB) per month on average. Mobile users paid an average of €8.5 per month for two GB of mobile Internet consumption, which is 17% less than the EU average.
SPRK compared the average values of download speeds between different European countries.
In Latvia, users had an average download rate of 36.4 megabits per second last year. The highest download rate was in Estonia – 69.1 megabits per second and in Belgium – 62.9 megabits per second, while the lowest in Portugal – 19.7 megabits per second.
Comparing Latvian prices with other European countries, SPRK said that users in Latvia have relatively low mobile costs. “In SPRK's view, the cost of providing an Internet service with high download speeds is appropriate. The service provided is available to users at an economically reasonable price,” said SPRK representative Andris Virtmanis.
SPRK is regulating public services in the energy, electronic communications, mail, municipal waste management and water management sectors.
