Wednesday afternoon, Chief Mike Tusken said his department was reviewing video that showed use of force during an arrest on Tuesday evening.
In a press release Wednesday night, the DPD says a Use of Force Review team looked at reports, the department's policies, body cameras, city cameras, squad cameras and a video from a citizen.
Tusken said the 28-year-old man was being arrested on a felony warrant for domestic assault out of Cloquet. He said the suspect fled from officers, and they chased him near the gas station at 6th Avenue East and 4th Street.
Video posted by a Facebook user shows an officer delivering three knee strikes during an attempt to handcuff the man. He was eventually taken into custody and booked into the St. Louis County Jail.
Tusken said there were no injuries to the man being arrested or the officers involved.
"We understand that any use of force by police today, especially today, is very concerning to our citizens," Tusken said during a Wednesday news conference.
Tusken said they track all cases of use of force. A department spokeswoman said the chief decided to release the body and dash cam video "in the interest of transparency."
The Facebook video of the arrest had been shared more than 500 times by late Wednesday afternoon, with many users criticizing the use of force during the arrest.
