As he accepted his best supporting actor award on Sunday, Brad Pitt joked about how the Senate voted against allowing witnesses during the trial that wrapped up last week.
"They told me I only had 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week," Pitt said. "I'm thinking maybe Quentin (Tarantino) does a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing."
Bolton, Trump's former national security adviser, offered to testify were the Senate to subpoena him. Portions of his unpublished book manuscript, released days before the Senate was to vote on allowing witnesses, included Bolton's words that Trump ordered him to help pressure Ukraine to investigate Trump's Democratic rivals.
Pitt won for his role as stuntman Cliff Booth in Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood."
Late last month, the Senate voted against allowing subpoenas for witnesses and documents by a 49-51 vote. Democrats were joined by two Republicans in seeking witnesses at the trial.
