Today, a rare interview with the Duchess of Cambridge was released. During her 30-minute conversation with "Happy Mum, Happy Baby" podcast host Giovanna Fletcher, Kate mentioned a particular photo of Princess Charlotte that she treasures—and now, the precious shot has been revealed on Kate and Prince William's official Instagram.
In the image, Charlotte is bent over smelling the flower, wearing a gray sweater and plaid skirt, with her hair pulled back in a ponytail. It appears to be from Kate's photo shoot with Charlotte for her birthday last year. (It's quickly becoming tradition for the Duke and Duchess to release new photos of their kids, taken by Kate herself, to celebrate their birthdays.)
In the caption, Kate's interview the podcast is quoted. "I’ve got this one photo of Charlotte smelling a bluebell, and really for me it’s moments like that mean so much to me as a parent," it reads. "I try every day to put moments like that in, even if they’re small or even if I don’t have time."
The caption doesn't mention any possible ties to Princess Diana—but avid royal watchers will know that the late Princess is famously associated with the bluebell. Her favorite perfume was Penhaligon's Bluebell, a UK-made scent featuring notes of citrus, hyacinth, jasmine, rose, and more.
Kate's appearance on the podcast—and subsequent release of a new photo of Charlotte—is a part of her ongoing promotion of her new survey, "5 Big Questions on the Under 5s." In this recent Instagram post, the survey is called "the biggest ever conversation on early childhood."
