In October 2020 electricity consumption using local production sources in Latvia was covered 54%, while in October 2019 it was possible to produce 83% of the electricity needed in the country, according to Latvia’s electricity market survey compiled by the country’s power transmission system’s operator AS Augstsprieguma tīkls.
In October 333 635 MWh of electricity was produced in Latvia, which is 2% less when compared to September and 35% less when compared to October 2019. Electricity consumption in October was 618 679 MWh – 10% more when compared to September and 1% less when compared to October 2019.
Although the volume produced by Daugava hydro-electric dam (HES) has increased 4% when compared to September, it has declined 25% when compared to October 2019. The volume produced by thermal-electric power plants has reduced – by 15% when compared to September and more than twofold when compared to October 2019.
A 30% increase was observed at smaller CHP plants when compared to September and an 11% decline when compared to October 2019. A 10% increase when compared to September and 14% decline when compared to October 2019 was observed at biomass power plants.
