Texas residential power use is up as more people work, study at home - Houston Chronicle

serongyu.blogspot.com

Residential electricity consumption in Texas remains higher than usual as people continue to work from home and children are learning remotely during the coronavirus pandemic.

Consumers are using about 6 percent more power than they did a year ago, according to Innowatts, the Houston-based energy analytics company that collects data from 35 million electricity meters.

That in-home consumption is also likely to increase. The Department of Energy predicts U.S. consumers will spend 7 percent more on electricity this winter, reflecting colder-than-normal temperatures and more residents continuing to work and study from home.

On the commercial side, consumption in Texas has recovered more than 90 percent of pre-coronavirus demand, according to Innowatts. Most commercial enterprises are within three percent of where they were last year, according to Innowatts.
