‘Jeopardy!’ Greatest of All Time: Who won first night? - syracuse.com

The Super Bowl of game shows is underway.

James Holzhauer, Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter are facing off in a special primetime “Jeopardy!” event to determine the long-running show’s “Greatest of All Time.” The trio are the show’s winningest contestants of all time, with close to $10 million in ‘Jeopardy!’ prize money and over 100 wins combined, and now they’re competing for a cool $1 million prize -- plus bragging rights.

Who won the first night?

Jennings took an early lead in Tuesday night’s episode thanks to Daily Doubles, while Holzhauer gave him a run for his money. Both responded correctly in Double Jeopardy, and Jennings’ wager put him on top by just $200.

The competition continues Wednesday night at 8 p.m. on ABC. The tournament-style event continues until one player wins three games.

Rutter, who first appeared on the trivia show in 2000, is currently the top winner on any TV game show with $4.69 million in “Jeopardy!” play. Jennings holds the record for longest winning streak at 74 games with $3.37 million in total winnings. Holzhauer, meanwhile, set and broke more than a dozen records for the largest single-day winnings, won the 2019 Tournament of Champions, and earned $2.7 million in winnings.

“It’s really all about buzzer timing and knowledge, and all of us are pretty good at that," Rutter said. “Personality-wise, I think Ken is probably the jokiest of the three, like he throws little quips in, and I’m a little too focused. ... James is also ready with the quips, but he’s got the analytical thing down, too."

“But we all put a bunch of strategy into it."
